Detectives in Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking teams

The Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate (SCD) is looking for accredited detectives to transfer into the collaborated Directorate.  The Directorate is one of the largest in UK policing dedicated to tackling serious and organised crime, with more than 1,100 officers and staff working together across both counties to provide intelligence and support to target and tackle anyone involved in serious criminality in our neighbourhoods, from home grown criminal networks within our own communities, to criminals who travel into Kent and Essex to commit offences.
The Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking team is a newly formed team working within SCD which will investigate allegations of Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking (MSHT) across the 2 forces.
The investigations into MSHT may involve single or multiple offenders or victims, and may be national or international, organised or opportunistic.  They occur in both rural and metropolitan areas, in settings ranging from nail bars to construction sites and involve activities from domestic servitude to the trafficking of children for sexual exploitation.
The new MSHT team will review reports of MSHT and will commence investigations into allegations of such crimes, there main focus will be to identify and safeguard victims leaving victims feeling supported and protected and perpetrators apprehended and prevented from continuing to exploit people as commodities.  The team will work closely with a number of partner agencies and charity organisations as it is widely accepted that this crime type cannot be dealt with by the police alone. The team will provide a dedicated commitment to tackling this area of offending, raising awareness and highlighting the issues in our policing area ensuring that a victim focussed approach is taken through identification of victims and removing them from exploitation.
The dedicated team will enhance the quality of investigations, reducing delays in initiating investigations and providing effective supervision from trained practitioners.
